SyntoniaRituals

Singing bowls for stillness

SyntoniaRituals

SyntoniaRituals is a tactile musical space for iPhone and iPad: play responsive singing bowls, shape their character, arrange evolving sequences, and let sound become movement and light.

It is made for slow listening and small gestures. Strike a bowl. Trace its rim. Leave a moment of silence. Build a ritual and allow it to unfold.

SyntoniaRituals is a focused companion to Syntonia. It grows from the same instrument-design and acoustic-synthesis work, then follows a distinct path centred on guided sequences and audiovisual composition. Syntonia is the broader instrument platform, with interval-based tunings, MIDI/MPE support, and an AUv3 extension. It remains under active development.

Syntonia Virtual Instrument

A playable Live Rig

The Free version begins with one singing bowl in the Live Rig; the permanent Pro unlock expands the surface to as many as four. Each bowl keeps its own frequency, colour, and acoustic character, ready for direct touch.

  • Strike a bowl for an immediate resonant response.
  • Rub around its rim to let the sound gather and bloom.
  • Move between bowls while a Ritual continues to play.
  • Adjust the performance visually without interrupting the listening space.

The sound is generated in real time. SyntoniaRituals does not rely on a collection of static bowl recordings: touch, motion, tuning, and the evolving resonances remain part of the instrument.

Shape a bowl of your own

The Library presents eight factory Singing Bowls, each based on a different material. The Free version can play Bronze Reverie and Quartz Stillness and can open factory bowls for temporary adjustment and auditioning. Pro makes the complete collection selectable and allows personal variations to be saved. The bowl editor brings tuning, interaction, colour, and acoustic character into one instrument definition.

Frequency presets remain independent from bowl designs. A familiar bowl can therefore take on a different pitch in the Live Rig or in an individual Ritual step without losing its identity.

With Pro, personal bowls, frequency references, and named Rituals are organised in the Library and stored on the device. The complete factory Frequency Catalogue remains available to browse in both versions.

Compose time, gesture, and silence

The Ritual sequencer turns a listening idea into an ordered performance. Each step can hold a duration and one of three actions:

  • Timed Strikes repeat a bowl at a chosen interval, or sound it once.
  • Continuous Rubbing sustains the gesture around the rim.
  • Silence gives resonance and attention room to settle.

Choose the bowl and frequency for every audible step, arrange the sequence directly, then play, pause, move through, or return to the Live Rig while the Ritual progresses. The Free version provides an editable five-step Default Ritual. Pro extends a program to 64 steps and adds named Rituals with their own colour and notes.

Harmonic Spectrum and Resonance Mandala are included in the Free version. The permanent Pro unlock makes all ten visualizers selectable.

Global controls shape motion, audio response, glow, trails, and contrast across the collection. Renderer-specific controls appear only where they change something meaningful, such as particle scale, trace spread, or line weight. The selected renderer and its presentation settings are remembered between fullscreen sessions. When Reduce Motion is enabled on the device, SyntoniaRituals uses a simplified profile with fewer particles, shorter trails, and less visual reactivity while preserving each renderer’s composition.

Designed for listening and performance

SyntoniaRituals can accompany quiet listening, sound study, creative work, an installation, or an intimate performance. It remains a musical instrument: its focus is gesture, resonance, timing, tuning, and audiovisual composition.

  • No account is required.
  • No microphone recording is used.
  • Your bowl, frequency, and Ritual data stays on your device.
  • VoiceOver, Larger Text, and Reduce Motion are considered throughout the experience.

Listen at a comfortable volume, especially during long sessions.
